Inducing consciousness is a process, a journey and not an event. You can increase your consciousness in many ways. Here I offer just a few ways

Inducing consciousness or awakening consciousness ulitimately leads to a consciousness shift

Here's a quick recap on what consciousness is (watch Youtube video)

Having a clear definition of consciousness, let's look at the process of inducing consciousness or awakening of consciousnesss. This does not have to be mystical at all. In fact, the notion of consciousness is so closely related to awareness that the terms can be interchangeable in many contexts. Let's look at an example. Early in my marriage my wife made me aware that I experience times of emotional seclusion. Without this external perspective on my behavior from my wife, I would not have had this greater awareness. Initially I would only be aware when it happens without necessarily being able to change it, while later the raised awareness assisted me to actively change my behavior.

While this is a simple example, it illustrates how my consciousness had been increased and I had become a little closer to my true self who do not need to emotional seclusion to function. In a way this raised awareness was inducing consciousness in me. The process was really to bring that which I was not aware off (from my subconscious) to my awareness or consciousness. Inducing consciousness therefore is the process of bring to the surface those aspects of our minds that are locked away from our view in our subconscious. Complete enlightenment (we live in an age of enlightenment) can then be defined as having NOTHING hidden from us and having full access to consciousness. For the author Eckhart Tolle this happened during a 24 hour period, practicing the power of now. For me, the process has been many years and will likely be for you too. Which brings us to the more complex subject matter. I know of a few people who claim they live in complete states of enlightenment and higher states of consciousness: Dr Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle and Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. All three from very different perspectives, but nevertheless.

What is this consciousness? Is my consciousness different from yours? Is there a collective consciousness? Is consciousness and spirituality different? There is only one way to answer these questions and it is to allow some external force to shine knowledge onto the subject matter to increase awareness and therefore assist with inducing consciousness. Sure, there are strong arguments that consciousness can be raised and/or altered with meditation or even be complete during meditation or guided meditation but then I am not talking about temporal induced consciousness. I am talking about a permanents state of altered consciousness - a permanent change in your access to consciousness energy.

In my case the first awareness of different subject matter started with the movie What the bleep do we know? It introduced me to so much subject matter on a very high level. Later I started reading people like Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, Eckhart Tolle, Louise Hay, etc. Collectively these authors have all contributed to rise my awareness and subsequently shift my consciousness.

Finally the process of therapy is also a very healthy way to induce consciousness. Why? Don't only people with psychological problems go to therapy? The answer is yes and no. Yes, if you have a serious pathology (psychological term for abnormal behavioral pattern) you should go to therapy, but like healthy people go to gym to stay healthy it is great to go the therapy to help the process of self-discovery. A good therapist will help to shine the light on those subconscious drivers and triggers that manifest in your day-to-day life in ways that you are not even aware off. Example? Let me tell you that you are dumb. What response did it evoke in you? That wasn't you, it was your sub-conscious reacting in a defensive way to a potential threat (my comment) and in a split second preparing you to respond. This response comes from your the part of your brain left over from pre-historic times, your reptile brain. If you were aware of this you would not react and cognitively (using your cerebral cortex) realized that I do not even know who you are, and can therefore not pass judgment on your intellect.

Therapy helps to bring those subconscious reaction to the awareness and helps inducing consciousness. So, it's a journey. First you have to embrace the subconscious component. Then you can start become aware of things around you. Birds, bugs, sounds, etc. It all raises awareness and consciousness. Alongside this you can investigate the nature of consciousness - what it is, how it is experienced, etc. etc. It's a fun journey. Come join me. We can learn from each other and help one another become more conscious. Spirituality then? That's a whole different matter, which I'll deal with on other pages.
