Jesus spirituality may be the ultimate role model for spirituality

It is sad that Jesus has become the role model for Christianity. Christianity has such a diverse set of franchises. Each claims to be the original Christianity with the REAL understanding of what Jesus was all about. Yet, the Roman Catholic Church and Central Baptist Church hardly agree on anything in terms of day to day practice and experience of the religion. So how then will an individual be able to cut through the clutter in order to understand what Jesus Spirituality is all about?

Religion vs spirituality

The issue of spirituality versus religion is a very recent debate. Religion has over the centuries held firm in their rules, dogmas and rituals associated with the particular brand of religion. This has diminished the experiential component of spirituality so that religion and spirituality has often been used as synonyms. It is in recent years that the distinction has started to emerge.

History of Jesus Christ

There is no consensus on the history of Jesus Christ. While the gospels is one account of Jesus, it is generally not accepted as historically accurate. This makes our ability to know what Jesus' spirituality was all about increasingly difficult as we don't really have an accurate account of what this man was about. The physical death of Jesus Christ in itself is historically contentious. However, let's not get too deep into those topics.

For me, the historical accuracy is not that critical to learn from Jesus in terms of spirituality. I believe Jesus' greatest gift to humanity was his level of consciousness. He lived practicing the power of now better than any individual before him. Whether he was historical or not, the example that Jesus set gives us all the examples of what spirituality is all about.
