I believe in the 21 century the biggest breakthrough will come in the mind-body connection and association that spirituality has with healing. Dr Deepak Chopra is generally regarded as the medical doctor who has the largest emphasis in the mind-body connection. His Chopra center places immense emphasis on the inner universe related matters. Deepak Chopra aims with his center at reducing biological aging and also with the aim at preventative medicine. This is not airy-fairy any more as some serious universities are investing valuable resources into researching and discussing the issue of spirituality and health.

Louise Hay Heal Your Body

Louise L. Hay

Practices what she preaches

Where Dr Deepak Chopra is one of the leaders on the field of medical science, Louise Hay seems to be the generally accepted authority in terms of the PRACTICE of healing through mind power. I think she carries great authority as she has applied that which she talks about and healed herself from a tumor. There is such profound wisdom in Louise Hay's material. The contribution to spirituality and health is profound. But what is she essentially saying? It's ironical that Louise Hay does not say much different things from what the universal laws of attraction is saying.

This is Louise Hay's series: You can heal your life

So if you subscribe to any of the 7 laws of attraction (no matter what version) you are halfway there. It comes down to your attention and your willingness to accept alternative possibilities. There is nobody who understand this art of possibility better than the author of the best-selling book of that title, Benjamin Zander. Having listened to Benjamin Zander in Johannesburg in 2008 I approach him and his wife and co-author, Rozamund Zander. Much of what they talk about has parallels in the world of quantum physics. Yet, what they write about is based on their personal experience - much like that of Louise Hay. They had little knowledge of the subject and assured me that the book was not written from that premise.

Benjamin Zander: The art of possibility

What does the art of possibility got to do with spirituality and health? Everything!!!. In order to engage in self healing, the first and most important step is to accept a NEW and different possibility. In the above series from Louise Hay, Gregg Braden uses an example of the Chinese healers who during the healing process, accepted a different possibility for their patients. The possibility of the patient being in a healed patient rather than the possibility of the patient being ill. I repeat it here as it is important enough to repeat:

It is all in your head and therefore mental health and spirituality is quite important. The same holds for spirituality in recovery as well as spirituality and nursing. Getting well has as much to do with accepting new possibilities of wellness and spirituality plays an important part in that mindset. One final thought. Probably the largest obstacle in spirituality and health to embracing the possibility of wellness is probably the strong identification of your ego (of sub-conscious) with the illness as the author Eckhart Tolle explains it in "A New Earth". Are we really sick or does this condition not happen to humans? Few can make the distinction. Most make the mistake to think they are the disease. We use the phrase I am sick, I have the flu, my infected chest, etc.

The mistake is this: You are consciousness and cannot be sick. Your body may be infected, attacked by a virus or growing out of control (cancer) but that is not YOU. The sooner you think that is YOU, the sooner it becomes part of your identity. You talk about it, moan about it, brag about it...you become a very good host to foreign participants in the biology of your body. Think like this. I am healthy and a virus is attacking my body OR My healthy body is responding to some germs creating an infected areas. My body is getting rid of some aliens that do not belong in the biology of my body...All of a sudden you are talking like a healthy person who do not identify with virus, germs or disease as part of who you are and voila: Virus, disease and bacteria depart with it. And yes I mean all virusses - and no I don't always get it right, but I do know the truth even though I don't always practice it!
